'Never look down on someone, unless you're helping them up.'

'SAAGA concentrates on abilities not disabilities.'

Rodney Coombe

I am 42 years old, born in Adelaide. I started playing golf competitively about 10 years ago, down at Willunga before joining The Vines of Reynella with my brother in 2001.

In 2002 I was diagnosed with a liposarcoma in my left calf muscle and after subsequent chemotherapy treatment, the decision to amputate below the knee was made. This happened on October 29 2002. I had my 1st prosthetic leg fitted in the 2nd week of January 2003 and played my first round again late in March 2003. I had previously been down to a handicap of 15 and was put on 22 to start with and quickly got that down to around 19. I was lucky enough to be the Nett handicap Winner at the 2004 Australian Open in Coolangatta. I now consistently play off a handicap of 17.

Other than golf I swim, go to the gym, work for an Outdoor Advertising Company as their National Operations Manager, watch the footy and follow the once mighty Blues and the Crows.
